Chattanooga Holiday Guide
by Jen, Chattanooga Vacation Rentals
Happy Holidays from Chattanooga Vacation Rentals! Thank you to all of our guests that are staying with us this holiday season!
What to do while you’re here?
Chattanooga has plenty of fun planned these next couple of weeks. Let us tell you about events taking place in the days leading up to Christmas, what restaurants are open on Christmas day, and places where you can spend New Year’s Eve in Chattanooga.
And if you've yet to make your reservations, we have several homes still available for dates over the holidays, including our two newest homes North Chatt Charmer and Tranquil Mountain Home.
AREA EVENTS, UGLY SWEATER COMPETITIONS, AND HOLIDAY PARTIES
Saturdays and Wednesdays
West Village, in Downtown Chattanooga has family-friendly, weekly events each Saturday with things like a Holiday Laser Show on December 15 and a showing of Polar Express on December 22. They also host Ale on 8th for adults each Wednesday from 5-8pm. Ale on 8th features local and regional brews, games, live music, and giveaways. Details of these and all of their upcoming events are on www.westvillagechattanooga.com.
December 14 and 22
The nip in the air has me thinking of the holidays and snuggling up in a sweater. An ugly sweater. While I usually think my mom has this one won hands down every year, you can bring out your best ugly sweater to these friendly competitions. Plus, my mom doesn’t even know she’s competing. The Naked River Brewing Company's party is on December 14, the Brewhaus' party is on December 22, and you can take part in the 2018 Ugly Sweater Day 5K and 10K throughout the month. Register here for the races.
Santa Pub Crawl
The party with a purpose gets started at 3pm on December 15. The kick off is at two of Main Street’s pubs: Hi-Fi Clyde’s and Feed Company Table and Tavern. Other participants include Honest Pint, Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Bar, Chattanooga Billiard Club, Jefferson’s, Hair of the Dog, Sing it or Wing it, Southside Social, Regan’s place and Westbound Bar. Whew! That’s a full day! What is the purpose besides fun, you say? Supporting The Salvation Army! Toy donation and monetary donation stations will be found throughout the route. Check out the Santa Pub Crawl Facebook page for the schedule of events and information about safely getting from place to place.
Flying Squirrel’s Annual Christmas FUNDraiser For The Kids
What a beautiful and delicious place to nosh, and help the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. Their menu changes often but it is always well thought out, local food centric, and delicious. Join them on December 19 and 10% of your food and beverage tab will go to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
Family Friendly Events
Chattanooga also celebrates the season with family friendly events. Ice Skating at the Choo Choo, holiday lights at Rock City, and Ruby Falls Christmas happen throughout the season.
Another great experience is glass blowing at Ignis Glass Studio. Ignis Glass Studio is in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. You can set up an appointment to make your own Christmas Ornaments. You know the feeling when you open your box of ornaments, that feeling of going down memory lane. Your own hand blown ornament is a great keepsake to remind you of your family’s time in Chattanooga. Actually, in my house, our Ignis glass ornament stays out all year.
Don’t feel like cooking this year? Some of our favorites that are open on Christmas Day: Ruth’s Chris, Sweet Basil Thai, Mad Priest Coffee and Cocktails, Beast and Barrel, The Honest Pint, and Hair of the Dog. Just an FYI that smoking is allowed in Hair of the Dog. Check their websites for specifics.
NEW YEAR'S EVE
For some of you, your ideal New Years Eve will be spent comfortably in your vacation rental. For some, getting out and about is more your speed. Some ideas of where to spend your Chattanooga New Years...
You can "Party On The Bluff" from 9pm-1am. Spectacular views combined with heavy hors d'oeuvres, full bar, a dj, and a ball drop. Tickets can be yours by following the above link. Oh, and the party photo at the top of the page is from this annual event.
Yep, West Village again. This family friendly event includes fireworks, laser shows, and music in a street fair environment. Festivities start at 6pm.
Ice on the Landing at the Chattanooga Choo Choo will be open from 11pm-1am to ring in 2019.
We also recommend that you get out in the woods this holiday season. The winter is my favorite time to get out on the mountains and to hike next to the creeks that surround Chattanooga. There are so many options: Cloudland Canyon State Park, Stringer's Ridge, Pot Point Trail, and the Guild Trail to name a few.
