Chattanooga Breweries

Drink Like A Local!

by Robyn, Chattanooga Vacation Rentals

Chattanooga has rapidly gained a reputation for great craft beer. Our local, Chattanooga breweries have a wide selection of tastes for the true beer connoisseur whether you favor an IPA, a pilsner, or a stout. For me, I am constantly on the search for a great brown ale, it’s so much fun to sample the brews at each of these great spots.

These are a few of our favorites!

Naked River Brewing Company
1791 Reggie White Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37408 (southside)

Naked River Brewing Company is located on the south side of town in the Foundry Building. Built around 1875 by Wasson Car Works (they build railway cars), it is believed to be one of the oldest building in Chattanooga.  Naked River revamped the building into a large, open-space brewery with a great selection.  I really enjoyed the Moonpie Stout, because, duh, it has Moonpies.  They are cold-crashed into the stout mash. It has a creamy, chocolate flavoring, which sounds odd, but is excellent. The brewery has a food menu featuring excellent barbeque.  There is both indoor and outdoor seating, and multiple TV’s for your viewing pleasure.

Chattanooga Brewing Company
1804 Chestnut St, Chattanooga, TN 37408 (southside)

Chattanooga Brewing Company is located a short walk from Naked River across the Finley Stadium parking lot (where the Chattanooga Futbol Club, CFC, has games during the summer season).  It is also next store to the Signal, a music venue. It is a great location to unwind after a long day of playing outside or to wait for a local minor league soccer game or a concert to start.

Chattanooga Brewing Company hosts unique events like Joggers and Lagers every Monday night and Brewga (yoga and beer) on Tuesday nights.  The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, there is both indoor seating and outdoor, beer garden seating. The food menu is delicious and well thought out.

Their Chestnut Brown Ale is one of my favorite beers, ever. Super Smooth with a great finish. All of their beers are great really, and you can not go wrong with your selection. Go try one!

Hutton and Smith
431 East Martin Luther King Blvd #120, Chattanooga, TN 37403 (close to downtown)

With limited seating and space, finding a place to drink your beverage can be challenging at times. But, if you stick with it and stay until a seat becomes available, it is well worth your time.  My favorite is the Belay Blonde. It has a light crisp flavor perfect for a lazy afternoon.  My friends rave about the Igneous IPA and the Inhibitor Imperial Stout.  Plenty to choose from, so maybe go for a beer flight and try 5 ounces of 4 varieties.  Friendly staff, great beer, fun atmosphere. There is no food menu, but you are welcome to bring a snack with you to enjoy.

Big Frog Brewing Company
2122 Dayton Blvd, Red Bank, TN 37415 (close to Signal Mountain)

Veteran owned and family operated, Big Frog Brewing Company gets its name Big Frog Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in the USA  east of the Mississippi.  Big Frog is also the nickname of the brewer.  Big Frog brewed at home for many years before he and his wife opened up the brewery.  There are seven varieties all hand made in small batches.  Come have a beer, a sample beer flight, or take home a growler of an IPA, brown ale, rye, porter, black IPA, or cream ale.

Oddstory Brewing Company
336 E M L King Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37403 (close to downtown)

Inspired by the mysterious piece of Chattanooga History. The brewery is named for the Oddstory.  "Under the streets of Chattanooga lies the odd level of our city, long ago claimed by the wild and waters of the Tennessee River." This is a Go Big or Go Home establishment offering a wide assortment of beer choices, including four of their flag drafts, as well as a rotating menu of small and shareable plates for your snacking pleasure. They will have something to please everyone including the most fickle of beer drinkers, and the space is beautiful.

Moccasin Bend Brewing Company
3210 Broad St, Chattanooga, TN 37408 (close to Lookout Mountain)

When you see the “Weird is Good or Make Chattanooga Weird “ logo around town, this the brewery that started it all! The second oldest brewery in our area has the atmosphere of sit back and relax. Enjoy the eclectic unique flavors this brewery can offer.

Big River Brewing Company
222 Broad St, Chattanooga, TN 37402 (close to Tennessee Aquarium)

Big River Brewing Company is located across from the Tennessee Aquarium. It has a wide assortment of domestics and their own beers to choose from, but I prefer the Sweet Magnolia Brown. This beer is very smooth and is perfect for a day of hanging out with friends. This wide open space has indoor and outdoor seating, pool tables, darts, and multiple TV’s for sports viewing pleasure.

Terminal Brewhouse
1464 Market St, Chattanooga, TN 37408  (southside next to Chattanooga Choo Choo)

This Southside brewery is located within walking distance to Songbirds' music venues, The Comedy Catch, and Regan’s Place (a retro dance bar). The multi-level brewery has a large, outdoor porch area and a full food menu (extra bonus! they pair your beer choice with food options).  I really like the White Shadow Belgian due to the light-bodied, citrus flavoring and the Southsidenstein (oatmeal stout) for a little variation.   I love visiting Terminal when I am on my way to a show.  Be prepared to wait on weekends, tables can be hard to find.

Wanderlinger Brewing Company
1208 King St, Chattanooga, TN 37403 (directly behind the Moxy Hotel)

Great Craft  Beer, Tap Room, Live Music, Food Trucks and Art

“We are a Chattanooga brewery and are dedicated to the perfect marriage between beer and adventure. Our beer is inspired by the thrill of the chase, the view from the top, and the friends you make along the way. We hope partaking in our beer will transport you to better times, all while inspiring you to pursue the next adventure” - Wanderlinger

So whether you are sitting down to hang out with friends or you are simply grabbing a beer after a long day, our local, Chattanooga breweries are sure to please the palate with the creatively named beer choices they have to offer.  Get out and enjoy!
